Basic WordPress instructions that cover most WordPress websites are here:

For your site, you’ll find in many places that when you are logged in, there is a little “edit” link below the content that will take you directly to the page or post for that content (I’ve just realized we didn’t put these in for the books in the carousel).

BLOG POSTS

If you want to add a blog post, go to the Dashboard when you log in and in the sidebar you will see Posts > New Post” Click “New Post and add a title in the title field and write the content in the main content field.

If you want to have a longer excerpt for the homepage than four lines of auto-generated excerpt, choose what text you want for the excerpt (≤ 1 paragraph or you will need to use a bit of html to separate the paragraphs) and put that in the excerpt field (you’ll see this on the right).

Be careful about copying and pasting text from other websites, as this can cause formatting issues. It’s best to either type directly in the main content field or to write in a simple text editor and copy and paste from there.

ADDING A NEW BOOK

When you want to add a new book, you go to “Books > Add new book” (from the dashboard sidebar). You’ll add the cover image via the “Featured Image” option and add the title and text in the title field and main content field as for blog posts.

There are two more special fields for your books further down the page: one for price and one for the Amazon url. You might find that the Amazon link that you copy could be as long as this or longer:

After the actual ID of your book (the bit I have in italics—which will vary from book to book), the rest is just Amazon’s tracking of your original click. I recommend testing the url after you have edited it to be sure it works.

Once you have the post ready to publish, go to the blue “Publish” button (top right) and publish it.

If you need to change the date on which a blog post is published you can edit that. The most recently-published post will always be the first one people see.

PRESS MATERIALS

You’ll see a custom post-type for “Author Photos” and you’ll make a new record for each photo. The low-res image should be uploaded as a “featured image” and the high-res image should be uploaded via the “High Res Image” option below the main content field.

There’s also a special custom post-type for “Author Bios” where you can edit the existing three versions of your bio.

Just remember to click the blue “Update” button whenever you have made changes. You can click “Revisions” to revert to any of the last ten previous versions of a page or post if you make a mistake.

WELCOME

The welcome statement text is part of the “Home” page and you can go to “Pages” and find that there.

The contact form is currently set to deliver mail to: seth.james.tpr@gmail.com.

BANNER IMAGE

The banner image and colors are hard-coded into the site’s stylesheet and you’d probably be better off having these design elements changed for you by HWD or another WordPress developer when you next want them changed.
